Craving For Some Rich Homemade Ice Cream? Niruben Got Your Back!

| Updated: July 6, 2022 12:13

A survey on ice cream by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) says Ahmedabad is one of India’s top ice cream consumers. And why not? Ice-Cream places in Ahmedabad have so much to offer that the foodies can’t get enough of it.

With different preferences for ice cream & companies, the city has many unique spots still preserving the authentic technique. Niruben’s Ice Cream is one of them.

Niranjana Desai, famously called Niruben, makes homemade ice cream in her home at Navrangpura. She has become quite famous with a variety of different and rich flavours on the menu, all from natural ingredients. When asked about the colours of the ice cream, she said it all comes from the ingredients used in the making, and added preservatives are never in use.

History

The business started thirty-seven years ago in January 1986, on a simple home kitchen gas stove. Now on a ‘bhatta’ with a small separate room for making ice cream, Niruben has come a long way.

Amrit Bhai, 45, who has worked at Desai’s place for about 30 years, explained their process of ice cream making. Unlike heavy machinery at factories, their kitchen has a big ‘bhatti’ with a vast kadhai to boil milk, the initial step of the process.

The ice cream is made every three to four days, and the supply of milk and cream is from a local dairy. They provide catering services and packaged ice cream to the customers on the go.

They began their journey with five ice cream flavours, Rose Coconut, Variyali, Chocolate, Badam Pista Kesar, and Kesar Elaichi. They now have a menu with 27 flavours with even lemon & ginger! Mango and custard apple have been prominent flavours on the menu for a long time when in season.

However, age being a factor at 77, she isn’t able to acquire all the ingredients required. Hence she has stopped making a few of those flavours. Despite that, the variety is still very varied. Word of mouth plays a significant part in marketing. They never had to spend an ounce on an advertisement.

While taking the interview, a customer gave his review. He said, “You must try the pan flavour! It is the best, and the texture is so smooth. Unique and best ice cream in the entire city!”

Indeed, Niruben’s ice cream is where you can come with your friends for a mouth-watering cup of ice cream.
