Acting on a tip-off, six teams from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Health Department (South) conducted a surprise check on clinics in the Lambha ward area, Friday. Not only were some of the clinics running without the requisite permit, two of the 10 “doctors” rounded up for further interrogation, were “practicing” without a medical degree at all.
Naroda and Vatva police stations have been apprised to initiate action under the Gujarat Medical Practitioner’s Act against the violators. The AMC teams found injections, IV fluids, antibiotics, multi-vitamins shots and nebulisers at the clinics. Some had not even registered for disposal of bio-medical waste. Two “doctors” were found to have no medical degree at all.
While Dr Priyanak Jodhani who ran Jan Kalyan hospital in Rajivnagar, holds a degree in BHMS (Homeopathy), he was dispensing allopathy. The clinic also had equipment for maternity deliveries and an autoclave machine to disinfect the same. Similarly, Dr Girjesh Shah at Saumin Clinic is a qualified homeopath but established himself as an allopath practitioner. His clinic also has 10 beds to treat “in-house.”
Practitioners Nisarbhai Ghanchi, M.P Jadav, Shweta Yadav and Hemnatbhai Yadav were all arrested for dispensing allopathy while being homeopaths.
Shakuntalaben Shriwas and Raghuraj Pal were arrested for not having “any medical degree.” Likewise, Supriya Patel holds a degree in Interprofessional Health Care Course while all that Pradeep Nigam could show was a qualification stating he was a medical research program graduate.
The clinics raided include Sri Gurukrupa, Shivay, Raj and Ayushman Clinic. The healthcare centres have been sealed.
