While love jihad and the anti-conversion law in its wake continues to monitor forceful conversion to Islam by way of marriage, the government has shared data on 390 evangelical pursuits in the last two year.
The facts came to light, when, on Wednesday, Congress MLA and legislature spokesperson, Ghyiasuddin Sheikh sought details on conversion statistics released by the government. It was learnt that during 2020 and 2021, nearly 390 people applied for religious conversion in Ahmedabad city and district in the past two years. None was approved.
The disclosure shared that 94 such applications were received in 2020, while 256 in 2021. From Vadodra city, of the 14 applications received in 2021 , only one was approved. On the other hand, Vadodra district saw six out of seven applications okayed.
The Dariapur elected representative further questioned on the government’s move to tackle the same. In response, the ruling party replied that provisions of the Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act 2003, have been tightened.
Further, in 2015 a five-year data showed a boom in proselytizing with nearly 1,735 Hindus seeking to be born again. The trend has been noticed most in Porbandar and Rajkot.
It is high time to act by the government agencies to stop this anti social policy of other religions. Why so crazy about conversions. There should be total ban and severe punishment.
