The buzz in Delhi and Gandhinagar is that CR Patil, the Gujarat BJP president, will be rewarded for his role in the party’s record-breaking 156 seats in the state Assembly elections. Patil made all the right noises in the aftermath of the landslide win, duly crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for such a stupendous show.
Speculations wafting in from icy cold Delhi on Thursday say that Patil, along with a leader from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, and a senior BJP from Telangana will be given Cabinet rank.
Reports say that Modi is likely to drop a dozen ministers — four of the Cabinet rank and eight ministers of state — and the same number of ministers likely to be inducted in the council of ministers.
Indications are that four ministers from South India will be dropped from the Modi ministry. The ministers from Karnataka who are likely to be dropped could be asked to contest the Assembly election in the state in May 2023.
Little surprise then, that some leaders have summoned their astrologers for a fresh look at their kundli.
