Gujarat recorded 1,646 fresh Covid cases and 20 virus-related fatalities on Saturday. With today’s update, the state’s active Covid tally stands at 15,972, while the cumulative death figures since the start of the pandemic has reached 10,794, the state health ministry daily bulletin stated.
While the cases continue to be on decline in the state, as many as six extra deaths were recorded on Saturday as compared to yesterday’s tally of 14. Most of these deaths (5) were recorded by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the daily health bulletin stated.
Yet again, Ahmedabad remained the biggest contributor with 546 Covid cases and five deaths, closely followed by Vadodara Corporation with 281 cases and four deaths and Vadodara rural with 90 cases. Other major contributors include Surat rural with 70 cases and three deaths, Mehasana with 69 cases and one death, Banaskantha with 32 cases and one death, Bharach with 14 cases and two deaths. Bhavnagar recorded two deaths and five cases.
Panmahal and Tapi districts had one death each in the last 24 hours.
The state had 1,883 Covid cases and 14 deaths yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) recorded no new micro containment zones on Saturday.

India reported 50,407 fresh Covid cases in in the last 24 hours, 13% lower than yesterday. The daily positivity rate dropped marginally to 3.48 per cent in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry informed.
India’s active caseload currently stands at 6,10,443. Active cases are 1.43 per cent of the total Covid-19 infections in the country. After a surge of infections in January led by the new Covid variant Omicron, first detected in South Africa, cases are on a decline in most states in India. Many states are now doing away with the Covid-related curbs, the latest being Bihar and Maharashtra.
