Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, pledging to conduct a caste census and establish a dedicated ministry for Purvanchalis if voted to power.
The manifesto was unveiled by Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, who was accompanied by Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh.
The party, which lost power to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2013, outlined a series of guarantees, including a monthly grant of Rs 2,500 for women, free electricity up to 300 units, and LPG cylinders at Rs 500.
Among the other promises, the Congress committed to providing free health insurance coverage of up to Rs 25 lakh and distributing free ration kits. It also announced a financial assistance scheme offering Rs 8,500 per month for one year to educated unemployed youth.
Additionally, the party proposed launching 100 Indira canteens across Delhi to provide meals at Rs 5.
The manifesto, structured into 22 focus areas, highlights various welfare measures.
During the launch event, Jairam Ramesh criticised both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government and the AAP-led Delhi government over their handling of pollution in the capital, stating that both had failed to address the crisis effectively.
Delhi is set to vote on February 5, with the election results scheduled to be announced on February 8.
