The Congress party, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, is planning a Bharat Nyaya Yatra from January 14 to March 20, covering a distance of around 6200 km through 14 states and 85 districts in 67 days. The yatra, which will be organized before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, aims to save the constitution and will cover an average distance of 120 km per day.
The states that were not included in the previous Bharat Jodo Yatra, such as Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Gujarat, will be given priority this time. UP, with 80 Lok Sabha seats, and Gujarat, with 26 seats, are of particular importance. The BJP has held all seats in Gujarat in the last two Lok Sabha elections and has been in power there since 1998. The Bharat Nyaya Yatra plans to spend 6-7 days in both UP and Gujarat.
The yatra will also focus on North Bengal, a former Congress stronghold with three reserved seats. The journey will mostly be by bus, with some parts covered on foot. The final route will be decided on January 8. The yatra will start from Manipur and end in Mumbai, with Rahul Gandhi and other travelers sleeping in containers during the journey. The Congress aims to regain its lost ground, especially in UP where it had 21 seats in 2009 but was reduced to just one in 2019.
