Congress Gives Message; Time For Action Now

| Updated: April 9, 2025 23:34

From Gujarat, the bastion of Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress has given a loud and clear message to its adversaries and the Nation that it is fighting a second freedom battle. For Gujarat, the party has vowed to go to the masses, bring a palpable change in the state and once in power fulfill the aspirations of the people of the state.

The day-long session of the All India Congress Committee ended on a high note with the gathering unanimously passing the resolutions. While the resolutions about the country focused on the problems plaguing the country, the party’s top leadership and several speakers gave clear indication that it is the work that will matter and the loyalty to the party. A special resolution was passed on Gujarat that dealt with a series of problems including, problems faced by the diamond industry, joblessness, malnutrition and the safety of women.

Predictably, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and several other leaders were critical of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP’s policies. However, they also spoke about the party’s organisational structure and had a clear message for the non-performers or even the betrayers.

Kharge exhorted the party workers to work hard and said those who cannot work hard for the party should take rest and those who cannot discharge duties should retire.

In his address, Kharge also expressed confidence that the Congress will form the government in Gujarat. He asked the incumbent state party president Shaktisinh Gohil to show his shakti (power) and further added that they were all together, they would work together. Join the masses with you and we will win, he further remarked.

The Congress has been out of power in Gujarat for over three decades.

Last month when Gandhi was in Ahmedabad, he had mentioned about certain leaders in the party who have BJP’s ideology and are harming the party. He had called for an action against them.

Though no action has been initiated in Gujarat, Kharge’s statement is also a clear indication for such leaders in the state and elsewhere in the country.

Apart from fiery speeches from young leaders like Kanahiya Kumar and Imran Pratapgarhi, the resolutions passed at the session reflect the research done on the issues faced by the country and Gujarat.

The resolution on Gujarat that mentions the party workers going to the masses to win their hearts and redressing their grievances, shows a reality check of Gujarat that is considered a vibrant state.

The problems faced by the small and medium-scale industries, the tribals not getting their rights, the continuous drug haul in the state and the atrocities on SC/STs have been well taken note of.

The resolutions on various issues faced by a cross section of the society in the country are elaborate.

Top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot, Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, Bhupendra Bhagel, D. K. Shiv Kumar, P. Chidambaram and Ambika Sonia were among those who were present.

The AICC Session was organised in Gujarat after 64 years. It was preceded by an Extended Congress Working Committee meeting on Tuesday.
