As the Teesta Setalvad story unravels, more and more developments have started to add to the case. As per the Gujarat SIT, there is a disclosure in its affidavit against social activist Teesta Setalvad. The 12-page-long affidavit alleges a conspiracy to overthrow the Modi Government in Gujarat.
Special Prosecutor Amit Patel presented the affidavit that accused Teesta Setalvad of asking for adjuring money and taking financial advantages, especially from the late Ahmed Patel. The affidavit states that Ahmed Patel lent Teesta Setalvad two times with 25 lakhs and five lakhs, respectively.
On the other hand, BJP spokesperson, Sambit Patra, attacked the entire Congress Party. He pinpointed Sonia Gandhi and accused her of making Teesta Setalvad a member of her kitchen cabinet. Patra also accused Gandhi of spreading hate against the Modi government, awarded Teesta Setalvad with the Padma Shri and made her a consulting team member for doing the same.
However, Congress MP Jairam Rajesh rejected all the allegations regarding Teesta Setalvad. Moreover, he issued a letter accusing the Gujarat government of failure.
Furthermore, Ahmed Patel’s daughter Mumtaz Patel responded to the tweets.
Setalvad, retired DGP RB Sreekumar, and former IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt are under custody of Gujarat Police for forging evidence and conspiracy in the 2002 Gujarat riots. Teesta Setalvad has filed a plea for bail in Ahmedabad’s Civil Court. However, the SIT filed an affidavit against Teesta’s bail plea on July 15.
Money Dealing Allegations
As per the affidavit, Setalvad has been working on the conspiracy since the beginning. She met the late Ahmed Patel a few days after the Godhra riots in 2002 to take ₹5 lakhs. Later, she met him again at the Government Circuit House in Shahibaug, where she received another ₹25 lakhs on Patel’s instructions. According to the report, the money was not for any relief.
The affidavit also claimed that Setalvad had financial favours from a political party to implicate officials of Gujarat State.
Teesta Cheated Victims Says Raees Khan
Raees Khan, a close aide of Teesta Setalvad, said the ideal situation to arrest Setalvad would’ve been the time of filing the complaint. He mentioned that people consume the money that belongs to victims and call themselves social activists. Further, Khan added that Teesta cheated the victim, and the people should not forgive her. He also accused her of collecting too much foreign.
No Bail For Teesta?
As the investigations on the Teesta Setalvad Case continue, SIT claims that Teesta was a way of making things politically difficult for senior leaders. The SIT has requested the bench not to grant her bail as she may threaten the witnesses or tamper with the evidence.
