The inaugural session of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit is an all-star event, with top industrialists and luminaries from all over the world in attendance. The 10th summit of the series, which was inaugurated at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, was no exception. VO! brings you quotes from the lead speakers:
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India: “We have celebrated 75 years of independence and have 25 years till we celebrate 100 years. This is the first year of the Amrit Kaal. By 2047, India will be a fully developed country. I personally guarantee it.”
Lakshmi Mittal, chairman, Arcelor Steel: “Accelor’s facilities in Hazira are currently under expansion, which will be completed in 2026. Then we will begin the second phase of expansion, which will be completed in 2026, after which it will become the single largest integrated steel making facility in the world.”
Toshihiro Suzuki, president, Suzuki Motor Corp, Japan: “We are investing Rs 3,200 crore in Gujarat. In the first phase we will increase our annual capacity from 2.5 lakh units to 7.5 lakh units. then to 1 million units. Then we plan to invest Rs 35,000 crore to add another one million units capacity. We will make two million cars per year in Gujarat for the domestic and export markets”
Mukesh Ambani, chairman, Reliance: “My father Dhirubhai Ambani once told me that Gujarat is our Janmabhumi and it should be our Karmabhumi. Reliance will always be a Gujarati company and I am a proud Gujarati. Of our total investment of Rs 12 lakh crore, one-third is in Gujarat. We will help Gujarat meet its green energy targets through our green energy park in Jamnagar. Reliance Foundation will help Ahmedabad’s Olympic bid by setting up the best in sports infrastructure.”
Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO, Micron: “The $2.75 billion semiconductor facility we are building in Sanand will create 50000 direct jobs and 15,000 additional jobs. More importantly, it will create a semiconductor cluster in Sanand.”
Jeffery Chun, CEO, Simmtech, South Korea: “We are making a significant investment in co-locating with our customer Micron in Sanand. This is not the first time we are co-locating with them. We have done so in Malaysia as well.”
Gautam Adani, chairman, Adani Group: “We are investing Rs 55,000 crore in Gujarat by 2025, which will create 25,000 jobs. We are creating a Green energy Farm covering 745 square km in Kutch which will be visible from space.”
N Chandrashekaran, chairman, TataSons: “Starting with Tata Chemicals in 1938, the Tata Group now has 21 companies operating in Gujarat, employing 50,000 people. Sanand is now home to our investments in Electric Vehicle (EV) technology. Our 20-gigawatt lithium battery unit in Sanand will be operational by the end of the year. We are planning to build a skill development covering 3.2 lakh sq feet for training in advanced EV manufacturing, hospitality, which will be launched in March.”
Shanker Trivedi, VP, Nvedia: “Our AI Data Centre in GIFT City will go online in March and we are planning more, in collaboration with leading Indian business groups like Reliance and the Tatas. We plan to work with Micron in creating a semiconductor ecosystem.”
Nikhil Kamat, CFO, Zerodha: “I thank Mr Modi for creating an ecosystem that allows someone like me to share space here with industry captains I have always admired. I am not the only one. There are many others who have benefited from this ecosystem.”
Shin Hosaka, Minister for International Affairs, Japan: “Japan supports the Make in India initiative. In Gujarat, we want to contribute to the semiconductor ecosystem and green hydrogen.”
Lord Tariq Ahmed, Minister, UK Government: “This summit is a masterclass in how to attract global investment. India is currently the second largest investor in the UK. Indian FDI in the UK is growing faster than any other country.”
Vahan Kerobyan, Minister of Economy, Armenia: “The mutual trade between our countries is $2 billion and it can increase with more collaboration in areas like diamond cutting.”
Prakash Sharan Mahat, Finance Minister, Nepal: “Sandwiched between two global economic powers, we have had a very liberal economic policy since the early 90s. Nepal is having a similar global investment summit in April and I would like to take this opportunity to invite Indian industrialists to participate.”
Peter Fiala, PM, Czechoslovakia: “We are interested in long term investments like clean energy, semiconductors. Unlike some other countries in Europe, we believe in the future of nuclear power and we would like to partner with India for research in this field.”
Jose Ramos Horta, Nobel Laureate, President, Timor-Leste: “Timur has the best coffee in the world. India should drink more coffee.”
