The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted light to moderate rainfall and cold wave conditions over Gujarat during next 3-4 days.
Gujarat has been witnessing record low temperatures with cold wave conditions making an appearance over many parts of the state. This weather change has taken place in the wake of the Western Disturbance induced cyclonic circulation which had resulted in rainfall in some parts of Gujarat as well.
The minimum temperatures in many parts of Gujarat are being recorded at least 5-6 degrees below normal. Usually, by the end of January, temperature starts rising. However, due to the late approach of an intense Western Disturbance, heavy snow has been observed in many areas in North India and too much gap has been there between an upcoming system. Due to this, northerly winds are blowing over the region and minimums are settling well below resulting in an intensified winter chill.
The city of Ahmedabad saw its minimum at 8 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees below the normal levels. Vadodara at 9.4 degrees Celsius (-4), Bhavnagar 10.4 degrees Celsius (-4), Deesa 7.8 degrees Celsius (-3), Gandhinagar 6.8 degrees Celsius (-7), Kandla 10.1 degrees Celsius (-5), Naliya 4 degrees Celsius (-7), Porbandar 10 degrees Celsius (-5), Rajkot 8.5 degrees Celsius (-5).
These weather conditions will persist over Gujarat for a while now, as the upcoming Western Disturbance will be a very feeble one and not much change will be seen in the wind pattern.
