Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, joined by his supporters, continued his indefinite hunger strike on Tuesday at Delhi’s Ladakh Bhawan. Wangchuk, who is leading the movement for Ladakh to receive Sixth Schedule status, began his fast on Sunday afternoon.
The demonstrators claim that no government official has spoken to them so far. Mehdi, an activist who is on hunger strike with Wangchuk, stated that Tuesday morning’s medical examinations of the protesters revealed that a large number of them had low blood pressure.
“We are sitting here in 40 degrees (Celsius). It is the third day, we have been sleeping here in the open,” Mehdi told reporters.
“There are old people sitting here as well, some have diabetes, and blood pressure issues. But we are not going to leave until our demand is met,” he added.
Liyaqat, who is also on a hunger strike, alleged that they are not permitted to meet with the people of Ladakh inside.
