Expecting an increase in passenger traffic at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) plans to deploy 600 more personnel ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Presently, approximately 1000 CISF personnel are responsible for overseeing airport security. The additional deployment will bolster security measures at domestic and international terminals, cargo areas, and general aviation facilities.
Airport management expects a phased increase in the number of sub-inspectors and constables from April onwards.
In the financial year 2023-24, as of 25th March, SVPIA served over 1,15,87,899 passengers which is a significant increase of 14% growth over the last year, when the airport served 1,01,78,749 passengers.
This growth reflects the airport’s ongoing transformation and commitment to enhancing connectivity. SVPIA now facilitates an average of over 245 daily flight movements and caters to 32,150 domestic and international passengers through its two terminals.
The general aviation terminal has also played a crucial role in supporting major events like the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, G20, U20, and World Cup matches, contributing to record passenger numbers over the past year.
