Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had met with officials and inspected various developmental projects in Chhota Udepur on Thursday. He was also scheduled to visit the General Hospital but could not due to heavy rainfall affecting travel conditions.
Presently, the current state of the hospital has come under scrutiny, with reports suggesting severe neglect of medical equipment worth lakhs of rupees.
Sources from within reveal that essential medical devices such as ventilators, sonography machines, X-ray machines, and oxygen equipment are in extreme need of maintenance. Furthermore, the hospital is facing a critical shortage of specialist doctors, forcing patients to travel long distances to Vadodara for critical medical care.
Chhota Udepur General Hospital serves primarily the tribal communities residing in the remote areas of the region. Despite being the sole healthcare facility in the area, the hospital suffers from a lack of adequate staff and proper medical infrastructure.
Locals expressed deep concern over the worsening healthcare services and emphasised the urgent need for specialised medical professionals and functional medical equipment.
“We have to cover long distances to get basic healthcare. We suffer due to the mismanagement of the hospital,” said a local.
Patel’s visit was aimed at assessing the ground realities and ensuring necessary actions are taken to address the healthcare challenges faced by residents of Chhota Udepur.
The revelations of neglect at the hospital have prompted calls for immediate intervention from the state government and health authorities to restore proper medical care facilities to the region.
