Surat City Police has launched an AI-powered chatbot named “Surat Cyber Mitra” to combat the growing threat of cybercrime. This innovative tool aims to empower citizens with instant access to information and guidance, protecting them from online fraud and encouraging them to report suspicious activity.
“Surat Cyber Mitra is a testament to our commitment to making Surat a cyber-safe city,” declared Surat Cyber Crime ACP AP Gohil during the chatbot’s unveiling. “Anyone in India can connect with it by simply sending ‘Hi’ to WhatsApp number 93285-23417.”
Available 24/7, the chatbot acts as an unmanned information hub, providing users with comprehensive cybersecurity knowledge at their fingertips. If someone encounters cyber fraud, the chatbot offers immediate steps and guides them through the complaint process.
But “Surat Cyber Mitra” goes beyond basic information. Users can report spam calls, emails, and links, access tips on preventing financial and social media fraud, initiate complaint procedures, learn about social media privacy settings, and even find contact details for their local police station.
Catering to a diverse audience, the chatbot offers its services in Gujarati, Hindi, and English, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for everyone. This initiative is part of Surat’s “Cyber Safe Surat” program, which actively educates citizens about online threats through campaigns like the “CyberSAFE Surat” audiobook and the “Cyber Sanjeevni Rath” mobile outreach vehicle.
“The launch of Surat Cyber Mitra marks a significant milestone in India’s fight against cybercrime,” said ACP Gohil. “By leveraging AI, the Surat Police has empowered citizens to navigate the digital world safely and confidently. This pioneering initiative serves as a model for other cities and states, demonstrating the potential of technology to create safer online communities.”
