Soon after Gujarat witnessed a political shift with Rupani’s resignation as CM and the appointment of Bhupendra Patel as the new Chief Minister, it is now Punjab’s turn to experience the same with Charanjit Channi swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Charanjit Channi took oath on Monday at Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh and became the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab. The Congress had elected Channi as the Chief Minister just a day after Amarinder Singh resigned following a bitter war within the party.
Channi has been a part of the Sidhu camp in the party’s divided house along with three other Ministers Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, and also has been close to NavjotSingh
Sidhu. He took oath as the new Chief Minister of Punjab along with Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Om Prakash Soni as Deputy Chief Ministers.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was present in the ceremony along with PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Meanwhile, PM Modi took to Twitter congratulating Charanjit Singh on being sworn in as the new CM of Punjab and also asserted on working with the Punjab government.
