The MS University organised its 70th annual convocation ceremony on February 5. Since it was an online event due to the pandemic, the students had not received the gold medals. Now after a gap of eight months, the university had organised a function to confer gold medals to meritorious students on Wednesday. But the function ended up turning into a fiasco.
Confusion ruled as the venue was changed on Tuesday evening from CC Mehta Auditorium on the campus to Sir Sayajinagar Gruh at Akota. Moreover, the chief guest—state education minister Jitu Vaghani—failed to turn up. If that was not enough, the function, which was scheduled to begin at 4 pm, was delayed for more than an hour. Till 5.30 pm, there was no dignitary on the dais. Eventually, the gold medals were conferred by the mayor and three MLAs in utter haste.
“I had stood first throughout my graduation. Today, I was supposed to get my hard-earned gold medal. But it is highly disappointing that because of the mismanagement, I did not receive notification, email or SMS regarding the function,” said Devanshi Rajesh Panchal, a topper in the Faculty of Social Work, whose video message has gone viral.
