Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to rejoin the NDA, six years after he left the alliance.
Widespread speculations follow the news that the TDP chief will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah again on Friday. They two leaders had a meeting late on Thursday and discussed the possibility of an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
BJP president JP Nadda was also part of the talks. According to sources, both parties are willing to join hands if a mutually suitable seat-sharing pact is arrived at. A seat-sharing agreement is likely to be reached during Friday’s meeting between the TDP, BJP and the Jana Sena Party (JSP).
When Naidu and Shah meet on Friday, the JSP president Pawan Kalyan is likely to be present at the meeting. He has already joined hands with the TDP.
The TDP was part of the BJP-led NDA till 2018. The party exited the NDA when Naidu was still the state’s chief minister.
TDP leaders want an early end to the uncertainty. They want the alliance to be sealed soon in view of the short period remaining before the general elections.
Earlier, Naidu, Shah and Nadda had a meeting in February. Andhra Pradesh has 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly seats. The BJP is apparently keen to contest eight to 10 parliamentary seats.
