The Central Government has announced the appointment of three lawyers as Judges of the Gujarat High Court. The newly appointed judges are Sanjeev Jayendra Thaker, Deeptendra Narayan Ray and Maulik Jitendra Shelat.
A press release from the Ministry of Law and Justice stated, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint S/Shri (i) Sanjeev Jayendra Thaker, (ii) Deeptendra Narayan Ray and (iii) Maulik Jitendra Shelat, Advocates, as Judges of the Gujarat High Court, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.” The appointments were made official through a notification dated 8th October 2024.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended these advocates for appointment as judges of the Gujarat High Court in August of this year.
