Beautiful! That was the only word I could think of as I listened to ‘Yet To Come’ this morning. This song is like a breath of fresh air that leaves you speechless. I don’t think I am wrong in saying that this is a welcome change for most ARMY. Although their English songs have been a hit and attracted lots of new ARMY, I would always prefer their Korean songs. Lyrics and production are their strong suits, and ‘Yet to Come’ is no different.
The title track of their new album ‘Proof’ is a celebration of the past that creates a nostalgic feeling and reminds us of the 2015 album ‘The Most Beautiful Moment’. Creating magical music and weaving lyrics to touch the hearts of the listeners is basically what BTS is known for. The newly released song feels like a perfect amalgamation of all their unique talents. Interestingly, the music video has many references to the band’s old songs. We see the members dressed in white suits and Worldwide Handsome Jin slowly opening his eyes, a reference to ‘Life Goes on’, Jungkook standing in front of a carousel, an unmistakable reference to classic ‘Spring Day’, the van from ‘Run’, the flower from ‘Fake Love’ and of course, the devil statue from ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’.
‘Yet to Come’, however, is not just about the past but offers an optimist perspective of the future. The septet sings ‘Yeah the past was honestly the best, But my best is what comes next’. These words are followed by ‘You and I, best moment is yet to come’.
Over the years, ARMY has realized that BTS never does anything without completely thinking it through. During the peak of Covidf-19 pandemic, they released Dynamite to create a fun atmosphere for the fans who were struggling with lock-downs. Soon after, BTS’ ‘Life Goes On’ hit the charts and offered fans the strength to move ahead and look forward to a hopeful future. We all know and understand the story behind ‘Permission to Dance’, of course. And who can forget the amazing cover of ‘Missing You’?
All their songs were released at the perfect time to create maximum impact on people and ‘Yet to Come’, I feel, was also released with a purpose. Countries are slowly rising above the Covid-19 pandemic, and although currently there are newer problems, people are beginning to believe that things will get better. The title track not only reiterates this sentiment but sends an inspiring message of walking towards a beautiful future.
I am a normal person who works a 9 to 5 job, and I don’t have the skills to dissect the song and the video on a technical level. Nor do I want to, actually. I have written this review just based on my feelings. When I heard the song for the first time as I was getting ready for work, I felt relief wash over me. First thing to pop up in my mind was, “Oh Thank god! They are back to doing what they do best! “
True ARMY will relate.
Also, I can’t wait for the live performance on June 13! I’m so curious about the guest. Who do you think it will be? Let me know in the comments!
