Even as news is still coming in, at least four casualties have been confirmed in a firing incident that started around 4:35 am on Wednesday morning, inside Bathinda Military Station in Punjab. Punjab SSP said that the incident was “not a terror attack”. All the four deceased are from 80 Medium Regiment.
Initial reports state that two armed shooters are still on the loose inside Cantt. “One Rifle and one Magazine did go missing two days ago. The shooters are in civilian clothes. The firing took place in the Officer’s Mess. All four casualties are from the 80 Medium Regiment,” reported on-ground media channels.
As per a statement by HQ SW Command, the Station Quick Reaction teams were activated and the area was cordoned off and sealed.
The search operation is in progress. The entire cantonment area has been sealed. The Army, however, is yet to intimate or seek assistance from the state police department.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the DGP Punjab, it was claimed that this is “not a terror attack.”
