Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while making a promise which is termed by many as wishful thinking, that ‘Agnrez” ( read white foreigners) will come to seek jobs in Punjab in due course lamented that there would be 2.75 lakh students going abroad this year. He commented that with each student Rs.15 lakh also goes out of the country.
Punjab CM wished the students to stay back in India and insisted he would like the brain drain to stop.
Bhagwant Mann’s remarks, especially about the foreigners coming to seek jobs in Punjab came under heavy criticism from many quarters drawing the Chief Minister’s attention to the issues at hand requiring to be addressed on a very urgent basis before thinking of inviting others.
The original CM aspirant in Punjab, ex- Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Siddhu implored Mann to ensure the safety of the people before inviting foreigners. In his tweet he narrated two incidents and said if such is the situation of law and order, nobody will stay in Punjab.
Another user was quick to point out that Mann’s children have studied abroad by publishing a news article with Mann and his children. Bhagwant Mann who is estranged from his wife since long had his children present at his oath-taking ceremony recently in a reunion of sort.
Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira also indulged in the matter by tweeting a list of issues that the Chief Minister must focus on to “set our house in order” before foreigners approach the state.
“I really hope foreigners approach PB for jobs but before that we have to set our house in order! Ensure job opportunities for youth, maintain law & order, end corruption, depoliticise police & civil machinery, stop indebted farmers & labourers from committing suicides & a just rule” He tweeted.
