Bangladesh Nationalist Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday emphasised the need to begin a new chapter in relations between India and Bangladesh, indicating that this should begin with the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as her prolonged stay in India could further deteriorate bilateral ties.
Reiterating his party’s aim for robust relations with India, the veteran leader and second-in-command of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party said they are ready to “move past previous differences and collaborate.”
Additionally, he gave his word that the BNP would never allow any actions on Bangladeshi territory that might jeopardise the security of India.
Alamgir said that the Indian establishment has still not reached out to the BNP, despite China, the US, the UK and Pakistan having done so and that this is a diplomatic failure on the part of New Delhi for failing to comprehend the outlook of the people of Bangladesh.
