The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to release the names of 100 candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections on Thursday. The list is expected to include the party’s top leaders – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The BJP’s Central Election Committee is scheduled to meet on February 29, after which the first list of candidates is likely to be announced. This list is of significant importance as the ruling party has set an ambitious target of winning 370 out of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, with an overall goal of securing 400 seats for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Prime Minister Modi, a two-time Member of Parliament from Varanasi, won his seat by a substantial margin of 3.37 lakh votes in 2014, which increased to 4.8 lakh in 2019. Home Minister Shah contested the 2019 election from Gandhinagar, a seat previously held by BJP veteran LK Advani.
Last week, Prime Minister Modi urged BJP leaders and workers to work diligently towards achieving the party’s goal of winning 370 seats, emphasising that the next 100 days would be crucial. “In the next 100 days, we all have to reach out to every new voter, every beneficiary, every community. We have to win everyone’s trust. To take the NDA to 400, BJP will have to cross the mark of 370 (seats),” he said at the party’s national convention.
The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to serving the nation, stating that he was not seeking a third term for the perks of power, but to continue his work for the country.
