Gujarat: 140 Teams Participates In BJP Organised Cricket Tournament At Botad, Covid Norms Flouted

| Updated: December 28, 2021 10:12

Cricket tournament held by BJP in Botad, Gujarat, violated covid norms. Spectators gathered in masses without wearing masks. BJP MLA Saurabh Patel shared a video on his social media account of a night cricket tournament that went viral. The video shared by Saurabh Patel showed the crowd had violated covid protocols by not wearing masks and did not follow social distancing.

The tournament was organised by BJP in a Government high school ground on Saturday night. BJP MLA Saurabh Patel says that “The tournament had started on 1st December, and a total of 140 teams had participated in it. For the first few days, only a few spectators had arrived. but in the last few days, the ground was filled with spectators. But we were not expecting such a huge crowd for the final match”.

Former Indian pacer Munaf Patel had also turned up at the tournament venue and had a meet and greet session with the crowd. When asked if the organisers had made the arrangements to ensure that all the protocols were strictly followed or not, the former minister said that they were not expecting the crowd given how the previous nights had gone. The motive behind organizing this tournament was not to violate norms and protocols but to host an event that had not been organized in Botad. Such events are never organised in the town of Botad and so a tournament was organised in this town. They claimed such a huge crowd was not expected during these few days.
