Rajesh Chudasama, the BJP Member of Parliament (MP) who secured his third consecutive win from the Junagadh Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat, has once again found himself embroiled in controversy. Prior to taking his oath as an MP for the third time, Chudasama issued an open threat during a public program. Speaking from a public platform, he declared that regardless of whether the BJP holds anyone accountable, he personally intends to settle scores with those who have caused him trouble.
The video of Chudasama’s threatening statement has made headlines. His remarks come in the wake of discussions surrounding the suicide case of Dr Atul Chag, where Chudasama was accused of instigating the doctor to take his own life. The family of Dr Chag approached the High Court, leading to the police registering a complaint in the matter.
What Did Rajesh Chudasama Say?
During a gratitude program, Rajesh Chudasama asserted that although he had served the people diligently over the past 10 years, this time he would not spare those who obstructed his path. “In the next five years,” he declared, “I will hold accountable those who troubled me.” Chudasama emphasised that regardless of whether the BJP takes action, he personally intends to do so.
Chudasama’s statement comes at a time when the BJP leadership has recently instructed MPs to exercise restraint in making public statements. This directive was issued during a meeting chaired by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state president CR Patil, attended by BJP MPs who emerged victorious in Gujarat.
Chudasama’s Hat-Trick Victory
Rajesh Chudasama secured his first win in the Junagadh Lok Sabha seat in 2014. The party re-nominated him in 2019, despite controversies surrounding the suicide of a doctor from Veraval. Despite speculation that his ticket might be revoked, the BJP once again fielded him and he emerged victorious for the third time. In the 2024 elections, Chudasama defeated Congress leader Hirabhai Jotva, securing a victory by a margin of 1.35 lakh votes. His previous wins in 2019 and 2014 were by margins of 1.50 lakh and 1.35 lakh votes, respectively.
