The BJP leaders have launched a scathing attack on the Congress for declining the invitation to attend the Ram temple consecration event on January 22 in Ayodhya. The BJP leaders accused the Congress of loving Babur, the Mughal invader who demolished the original temple, more than Lord Ram, the Hindu deity.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Congress always chooses Babur over Ram and that their refusal to attend the event is good as their presence would have spoiled it. He said that the Congress missed an opportunity to reduce their past sins by participating in the historic event. He also shared a photo of Rahul Gandhi at Babur’s tomb in Kabul on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
BJP leader Tejasvi Surya echoed Sarma’s views and said that the Congress leaders have declined the invitation because the devotees have been chanting Hanuman Chalisa, a devotional hymn, which keeps evil spirits away. He quoted a verse from the hymn that says that evil spirits flee when they hear the name of Hanuman, the monkey god and a devotee of Ram.
The Congress, on the other hand, called the January 22 event a BJP/RSS one planned for election gains and announced that Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury would not attend the event. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that those who have faith can go to the temple anytime and that the controversy is BJP’s conspiracy.
