Ragging continues in many elite institutions across the country even as this incident is reported from BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad.
Resolving to stand up to assaults, six second year students at the college have, in a written complaint, formally reported repeated physical abuse over the past “many months.” The accused are seniors from the same department, Orthopaedics.
“The violence was unleashed in the form of punches, slaps and kicks. They were also forced to do sit-ups and subjected to verbal abuse. One of them recently suffered a serious ear injury,” Dr Rajesh Solanki confirmed, HoD, Orthopaedics.
On basis of the written complaint, the offending trio was summoned. “A report of their response has been submitted to the PG, Director” added the varsity official.
Meanwhile, when corroborated with other students, most refused to comment on the incident. A teacher on conditions of anonymity stated that students are often asked to report instance, if any, of ragging on campus.
