After two years of Covid necessitated travel ban, Britain is finally open and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games beginning in July, are a good reason to plan a visit.
The host country has promised that the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will demonstrate the very best of Global Britain to the world.
The Commonwealth Games often referred to as the Friendly Games, is an international multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. Birmingham 2022 will be held from July 28 to August 8. The first Commonwealth Games were held in Hamilton in 1930. Barring 1942 and 1946, the Games have been held every four years.
British Deputy High Commissioner in Ahmedabad Peter Cook shared insights on the sporting and cultural event. Mr. Cook took up his appointment in Ahmedabad as the British Deputy High Commissioner to Gujarat and Rajasthan on January 14, 2019.
The Queen’s Baton Relay has also been travelling around the Commonwealth, with a recent historic stop in Dubai, UAE, as part of UK National Day at Dubai Expo, and the UK before arriving in Birmingham for the Opening Ceremony on July 28.
Peter Cook said, “India has always been a frontrunner when it comes to contributing to the UK’s travel industry. There are innumerable Gujarati food joints and businesses in the U.K. Not just travel and tourism, we are also eager to explore business partnerships with Gujaratis.”
India is a significant growth market, its value growing 63% in the five years to 2019 to a record £753 million in visitor spending.
There will be over 200 events including an open-air show, a Birmingham-inspired album, a 3D experience on public transport, photography exhibitions across billboards, a city centre forest of magical proportions, a tap-dancing record attempt, and much more.
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is a West Midlands Celebration with Birmingham at its heart. The venues being used for the Games stretch from Coventry, Solihull, and Royal Leamington Spa to Cannock Chase Forest, Royal Sutton Coldfield, and Wolverhampton.
