Bihar: EOU Summons Candidates for Questioning In NEET Paper Leak

| Updated: June 15, 2024 19:37

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar has ramped up its investigation into the alleged NEET paper leak that occurred during the exam on May 5. Notices have been dispatched to nine NEET candidates, compelling them to appear at the EOU office for interrogation.

Taking charge of the case, an eight-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) assumed control from the Patna police a month ago. Progressing with the inquiry, authorities discovered that the roll codes of 13 candidates were associated with a solver gang, leading to the initial arrest of four individuals. Seeking further details, the EOU requisitioned additional information about the remaining nine candidates from the National Testing Agency (NTA), obtaining their admit cards, mobile numbers, and addresses.

Hailing from various districts of Bihar, these candidates, accompanied by their parents, have been summoned for questioning to ascertain the extent of their involvement with the solver gang and whether they were privy to the question paper in advance.

With a commitment to uncovering the truth and swiftly addressing any misconduct, the EOU is resolute in its pursuit of justice.

Education Minister’s Response

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan weighed in on the NEET paper leak accusations, refuting claims of widespread irregularities by highlighting that issues were confined to only six examination centers out of the approximately 4,500 nationwide.

While firmly denying the occurrence of a paper leak, Pradhan underscored that if the allegations are substantiated, no wrongdoer will be spared. He emphasized the government’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the interests of NEET aspirants and upholding the exam’s integrity.

Assuring a thorough investigation, Pradhan stressed that every aspect is under scrutiny and accountability will be enforced, even on the National Testing Agency (NTA), should any oversights be identified.

Reiterating the government’s pledge to ensure a level playing field for NEET examinees, Pradhan affirmed, “The government is resolute in safeguarding the interests of NEET aspirants. Student concerns will be addressed with impartiality and justice. The Supreme Court is apprised of the facts related to NEET.”

Furthermore, he announced that the counseling process would kick off soon to facilitate a seamless transition for the students.
