Bihar BPSC Protest: Prashant Kishor to Begin Indefinite Hunger Strike on Jan 2

| Updated: December 30, 2024 20:12

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor has announced that he would commence an indefinite hunger strike on January 2, urging the resolution of concerns raised by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants.

After the Jan Suraj head and BPSC candidates demonstrated at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday, calling for a re-examination for the 70th BPSC preliminary exam, police filed an FIR against 700 individuals, including Prashant Kishor.

Many students have reported that the questions closely resembled model papers offered by coaching centres and seemed to be of the level of a police recruitment test.

The exam took place for 2,031 positions, including 136 DSPs, 200 SDMs and other gazetted officer positions, making it one of the major vacancies in recent years.

Speaking to the media earlier on Sunday, Prashant Kishor said that his party would stand for students in the situation where they were subjected to injustice.

“The government has agreed to discuss the demands of the students and the five-member students’ committee will go and speak with the Chief Secretary immediately so that a decision can be made on the issues and demands of the students,” Kishor said.

A decision on more protests will be taken tomorrow morning, according to Prashant Kishor, if the students or the student organisation of BPSC candidates are not pleased after meeting with the Secretary.

“I would request aspirants to refrain from doing anything illegal at this time. We will fully support the students if the decision is not in their best interests or if they are subjected to any injustice. I am with the students,” Kishor declared.

The protesting students in Patna are demanding the cancellation of the Integrated Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission on December 13.
