Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) announced the appointment of Professor Bharat Bhasker as the Director of IIMA for a tenure of five years on Monday. His tenure is set to begin on March 01, 2023.
At present, Prof Bhasker holds the position of Professor of Information Technology and Systems at IIMA Lucknow and will take the position with effect from March 01.
Prof Arindam Banerjee is the interim Director-in-charge for the period from February 01 to February 28, 2023. The Board of Governors Chairperson Pankaj R Patel said, “The Indian Institute of Ahmedabad (IIMA) is renowned for its rich legacy as a premier global management institution. I would like to congratulate and welcome Professor Bharat Bhasker as the new Director of IIMA.”
The IIMA Board of Governors earlier followed a very comprehensive search for the Director’s position. The committee had shortlisted 13 eligible candidates for the same. After a thorough interview and consultation process, the committee was convinced to name Prof Bhasker as the new successor.
Professor Bhasker is an experienced Information Technology leader with almost three decades of experience in industry, research, teaching, and consulting in India and globally. Until recently, he served a five-year term as the Director of IIM Raipur from March 2017 to March 2022.
Prof Bhasker brings a rich industry experience in addition to his academic tenure. He has held senior positions with multiple organizations globally including the Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA, SYBASE Inc, MDL Information Systems amongst others.
In November of last year, after two rounds of online voting, the IIM Governing Council members chose to replace Aditya Birla Group Chairman and well-known industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla from his position as chairman on November 11. Four days after the voting on November 11, Kumar Mangalam Birla’s term was set to expire on November 15. Pankaj Patel was chosen by the IIM Governing Council to replace Kumar Mangalam Birla as chairman. Pankaj Patel is Zydus Lifesciences’ chairman.
