Sania Mirza is not the only victim of Shoaib Malik’s flamboyancy.
In 2010, days before the former Pakistani captain tied the knot with Mirza, marital infidelity and abandonment allegations hounded him. A woman from Hyderabad in India named Ayesha Siddiqui (then 29), alleged that he had performed the nikah (Islamic marriage ceremony) with her and came with video proofs of their wedding.
Malik in turn had alleged he had a telephonic nikah with Ayesha (also known as Maha) and never met her in person, although they exchanged photographs. “I walked out of my house one morning in June 2002 and went to my friend’s shop and called from there. I got a nikah nama, signed it, thinking the girl I was marrying was the one in the photographs,” he said.
Although her family threw a reception in Pakistan soon after, he claimed that he still had not met his bride.
In 2005, he became aware of this act of treachery. His brother-in-law revealed to him that his nephews had come across a teacher called Maha Siddiqui in Saudi Arabia, who claimed to be his wife.
When he confronted the woman over the phone, she admitted that the woman in the photographs was another woman altogether.
On the other hand, Siddiqui’s family alleged that he had consummated the marriage with her, and that eventually led to a miscarriage. Dr Shams Babar, a relative of the Siddiqui’s revealed that she miscarried a child.
“Ayesha indeed had a miscarriage, but I cannot tell when (the year) it happened. All reports (on the miscarriage) and other proofs have been given to the police today. We have enough proof against Shoaib and these are on things which went beyond marriage,” he said.
Eventually, Malik had to pay her an alimony of Rs 15 crore.
Then Malik and Mirza got married in April 2010. They have a son together called Izhaan Mirza Malik, who was born in 2018.
And now the pair parted ways after 14 years of marriage. Sana Javed is the third woman in Malik’s life. Let’s see if this ends up in a stable marriage.
