The BCCI on Wednesday announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against West Indies. Recovered from his hamstring injury, Rohit Sharma will now be seen back in action and leading the squad in the series.
After a long break, the 27-year-old left-arm wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav is included in the squad. He will be playing the series along with Yuzvendra Chahal, while senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be seen out of action in both the series, probably due to an injury – said some reports but the press release by the BCCI did not mention anything regarding it.
Although, “Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested” and Ravindra Jadeja is “undergoing his final stage of recovery post his knee injury” – stated the press release.
Considering the wrist-spin as a wicket-taking option in the visibly disturbed middle-overs, the 21-year-old leg-spinner, Ravi Bishnoi has been called-up for his maiden play in the home series against West Indies. Also, Deepak Hooda has too been called up for the 50-over fold. Apart from this, Washington Sundar will be seen returning to the squad. In the previous series against South Africa, the young all-rounder was ruled out due to testing positive for Covid-19 before the series.
