On Thursday morning, a parcel containing a battery-like device caused an explosion, injuring two people, including the delivery man and the recipient’s family in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati area.
The blast took place at Shivam Row House in Sabarmati when the delivery man, Gaurav Gadhvi, handed over a parcel to one Baldev Bhai. However, the intended recipient was not present at the time, and the parcel was opened by a family member, Kirit Sukhaida, who was injured in the blast. The explosion, which occurred suddenly with a loud bang, caused panic in the area, prompting people to rush to the scene. Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived and began investigating the incident.
Kamal Sukhaida, a family member of the injured, recounted the events, saying, “I was at work when my mother called and said that someone had come with a parcel for my father, even though we hadn’t ordered anything online. Meanwhile, two people were seen outside the society who allegedly pressed some button, and that’s when the blast occurred, injuring them. Two individuals absconded, while the delivery man was arrested by the police. The investigation is ongoing.”
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Rupen Barot, allegedly seeking revenge for his divorce, planned the attack with the help of two young men. The parcel was originally intended to harm the recipient, but it exploded when opened by a family member, causing only minor injuries.
Joint Police Commissioner of the city, Neeraj Badgujari, confirmed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) had been planted inside the parcel. The explosion, which was meant to target the intended recipient, instead injured a family member upon being opened.
Gadhvi, the delivery man, has been arrested by the police, and further investigations are underway. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and police teams are currently at the scene conducting additional inquiries.
