In an impressive move, doctors of Chandramani Hospital in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, recently organized a camp where more than 13000 police personnel and their families were given free medical checkups and treatment based on their police health cards. The medical camp is the result of the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner Sanjay Srivastava’s efforts, who realized that the police personnel were avoiding medical checkups and treatments as they had to spend money on these services.
Srivastava had called for a meeting with the police officials where he understood that police personnel and their family members incur expenses for medical checkups and treatments and hence were hesitant to avail these as they have to take care of their own household responsibilities. He realized that this was a serious matter and took it upon himself to make the medical treatment free for the police personnel and their families.
In a meeting, Srivastava asked DCP of Headquarters Dr. Kanan Desai to take the responsibility of providing free medical facilities to the police. As such, the two heads met with the doctors of Chandramani Hospital and arranged for this camp in order to ensure better health of the police and their families. Under this program, all the policemen on duty in the city and their families were given police health-cards that would allow them free medical checkups. As it is a multi-specialist hospital, the police personnel were provided with sonography, X-ray, cardiology and laboratory facilities.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, many police officers lost their lives while on duty and many others lost their relatives as well. Srivastava set up a program where he offered financial assistance to the families of the deceased police personnel, and also jobs and education for the distressed families. Although the situation is not at its worst now, has showed continued concern for the these employees and their families.
