Days after Bengaluru resident Atul Subhash died by suicide, accusing his wife of harassment, the Bengaluru police has now arrested her, along with her mother and brother, on Saturday morning.
In a case involving suicide aid, Atul’s wife Nikita Singhania was arrested from Gurugram, Haryana, while her mother Nisha and brother Anurag were detained from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, according to a senior police officer.
The accused were brought before the court and placed in judicial custody.
Police have charged the accused under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (criminal act with a common intention) in the initial FIR. They have also allegedly demanded Rs 30 lakh for the right to visit his son and Rs 3 crore to get the cases against Atul withdrawn.
The arrests follow Bengaluru Police’s decision to seek the aid of their Uttar Pradesh counterpart in order to track down the case’s suspects. According to sources, Nisha and Anurag left their Jaunpur residence late Wednesday. When the Bengaluru Police discovered that Nisha’s home in Jaunpur was locked, they also pasted a notice on the wall.
Following the discovery of Munnekollal resident Atul Subhash’s body inside his flat on Monday, his brother Bikas Kumar lodged a complaint against Subhash’s wife Nikita, her mother Nisha, brother Anurag and uncle Sushil Singhania.
The Allahabad High Court has received applications for anticipatory bail from the four accused. While the bail plea is still pending, the arrests were made on Saturday.
What did Atul say?
According to the authorities, the 34-year-old shared an 81-minute video of himself with a board that read, “Justice is Due,” around his neck and wrote a 24-page message detailing his ordeal. Additionally, he said that an Uttar Pradesh family court judge who favoured his in-laws was accused of corruption.
Subhash, who is from Uttar Pradesh, worked as the deputy general manager of a Bengaluru-based automobile company. In 2019, he married software professional Nikita. Later on, they split up. He had nine cases pending against him on various counts, such as unnatural sex, dowry harassment and murder. In a few of the instances, his parents were also listed as accusers.
