Art Takes Centrestage At ‘First Take’

| Updated: November 19, 2021 21:48

With linocuts, sculptures, acrylic and mixed media artworks; First Take was a festival of art and artists. The fifth edition of Abir India’s festival of art showcased 120 young Indian artists from across the country.

From over 2500 submissions, a panel of jury comprising K.S Radhakrishnan, R M Palaniappan, Vasudevan Akkitham, Kristine Michael, and Hartmut Wurster selected the short-listed and winning entries. Out of 122 selected artists, 10 were awarded for their excellence, ideas and expressions.

Ruby Jagrut, founder of Abir said, “Artists had a tough time due to Covid but we are overwhelmed with the way artists have come together to celebrate art through the event. We received over 2500 submissions from over 250 pin codes. Through its last five editions, Abir India received over 10200 entries out of which works of 620 artists have been chosen and 42 artists have been awarded. I’m grateful and humbled by the encouragement and response to this event.”

An event of this magnitude, scale, and standard revived the enthusiasm of young artists and added a slice of hope and aspiration in the art community. Out of 122 artists, 10 winners were selected for their excellence, ideas and expressions.
