The Aravalli Local Crime Branch (LCB) has successfully nabbed an inter-state gang responsible for stealing valuable 5G mobile tower batteries across Gujarat. The operation led to the arrest of two suspects yesterday, with 11 stolen batteries being recovered. However, four other members of the gang are still on the run.
The series of thefts, totalling 31 cases across 9 districts in Gujarat, prompted a focused investigation by the Aravalli LCB. The gang, originating from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, specifically targeted Jio company’s towers at 59 locations in Gujarat, resulting in complaints being filed across 31 police stations in the state.
The involvement of the Aravalli LCB was spurred by 3 FIRs lodged at Modasa Rural and Tintoi police stations in the district. Utilizing technical surveillance and analyzing CCTV footage, the LCB team identified suspicious activities and successfully intercepted a vehicle near Kishorpura Chokdi during their night patrolling. The driver, identified as Anas alias Sonu Shamsher Gaju Chaudhari, was apprehended on the spot, leading to the recovery of stolen batteries and tools.
Following interrogation, Anas admitted to his participation in the crimes and provided crucial insights into the gang’s operations, including their modus operandi and the distribution of the stolen goods. Subsequently, another associate, Joheb Israr Qureshi, was arrested in Ahmedabad by the LCB.
The seized items, which include a car valued at ₹5 lakh, batteries worth ₹1.10 lakhs, and tools used in the thefts, have been successfully recovered. It has been established that all 31 cases registered across various police stations in Gujarat are linked to this particular gang.
