The brother of jailed criminal Lawrence Bishnoi, Anmol Bishnoi, was detained in the United States on Monday. After questioning Anmol Bishnoi, US officials may first hand him over to Canadian police in connection with Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder. Following that, Indian authorities may take custody of him.
Initial reports state that Anmol, a notorious criminal who is wanted in India for a number of high-profile murder cases, was apprehended in California.
Anmol left India last year and rose to prominence in the criminal network run by the Bishnoi gang following the arrest of his brother, Lawrence Bishnoi. Anmol is wanted in several criminal cases in India, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi artist Sidhu Moosewala and a shooting outside the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
Additionally, he is linked to the murder of Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and NCP politician.
Anmol Bishnoi was detained in the United States a few weeks after the Mumbai Police Crime Branch started the extradition procedure. In addition, Anmol is facing 18 other criminal cases and two cases filed with the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
A reward of Rs 10 lakh has been announced by the terror investigation agency for anyone who can provide information regarding Anmol Bishnoi that results in his arrest.
In 2023, the gangster first escaped to Canada with a forged passport. In July this year, a Mumbai court issued a non-bailable warrant against him due to his criminal history.
Authorities have confirmed Anmol’s communication with the gunmen involved in Baba Siddique’s murder. Two of the case’s suspects have been taken into custody, while one is still at large.
Anmol allegedly gave the assailants a nine-minute speech in which he urged them to “create history” during the attack on Salman Khan’s residence earlier this April.
Lawrence Bishnoi, Anmol’s elder brother and a major player in organised crime for almost a decade, is being held at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail on charges of violent and drug-related offences.
