Fans eager for the extended cut of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal on Netflix are facing a cruel twist of fate. While initial announcements teased additional footage, new developments reveal that due to platform restrictions, only the censor-approved theatrical version will be available.
Producer Pranay Reddy Vanga recently dashed hopes in an interview, admitting the extended cut for OTT might not materialize. This comes as a major blow to those anticipating more of the dark crime thriller. However, Vanga offered a consolation prize, hinting at the possibility of releasing deleted scenes on YouTube.
Animal, despite mixed reviews, roared at the box office. Lauded by prominent figures like Nani, RGV, and Allu Arjun, it established itself as a commercial success. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga initially envisioned a longer cut, trimming nearly 9 minutes for theatrical release. These excised portions were to find their way into the Netflix version, but the platform’s recent policy change regarding streaming only censored content in India dashed those plans.
This news undoubtedly stings for fans who were expecting a deeper dive into the film’s world. Animal boasts a stellar cast, including Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Tripthi Dimri, and veteran actors like Shakti Kapoor. T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures backed the project, with Harshavardhan Rameshwar crafting the soundtrack.
While the theatrical version of Animal remains available on Netflix, the absence of the promised extended cut leaves a bittersweet taste for dedicated fans. Whether the deleted scenes released on YouTube can fill the void remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the initial excitement surrounding the OTT release has now been doused with a bucket of disappointment.
