Hollywood actor Angelina Jolie is set to be honoured at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival for her humanitarian efforts and contributions to the film industry.
Angelina will be receiving the ‘TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media’ at the upcoming film festival.
The TIFF fundraiser event on September 8 will honour the Oscar-winning actor. The award, given by Anne-Marie Canning, recognises contributions to social work and cinema. Past recipients of this honour include Alanis Obomsawin, Pedro Almodóvar and Mira Nair.
The inaugural Honorary Chair of the fundraising gala will be Sandra Oh, who will be honoured with Angelina in addition to Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Durga Chew-Bose, David Cronenberg, Clément Ducol and Camille, Jharrel Jerome, Mike Leigh and Zhao Tao.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said, “Angelina Jolie is a multifaceted talent who has entertained audiences for decades while consistently using her platform to champion important causes.”
“We’re honoured to present her with the 2024 TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media. This award recognises her exceptional achievements in filmmaking, and her unwavering commitment for positive change, solidifying her status as a veritable humanitarian and global force to be reckoned with,” Cameron added.
Furthermore, the film festival will have the world premiere of her latest film: Without Blood.
Without Blood is a war drama written, produced and directed by Angelina; it is based on the same-titled novel by Alessandro Baricco. It tells the tale of a girl’s desire for healing and retribution during a volatile time. Demián Bichir and Salma Hayek Pinault play the key roles.
After the success of two movies, First They Killed My Father, which she wrote and directed and The Breadwinner, which she executive produced, she will be making her TIFF comeback with this appearance. Both films were TIFF selections in 2017.
