Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 starring Kiara Advani and Kartik Aryan hit the theatres this Friday and has already taken over the box office as the biggest opener of 2022 with a collection of Rs14.11 crores on its first day. Anees Bazmee-directed movie is a sequel to the 2007 hit psychological thriller, which starred Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Shiney Ahuja. Ever since Bhool Bhlaiyaa 2 was announced, there have been a lot of speculation on why Akshay Kumar did not come back for the sequel. The buzz was only louder because the first film was a huge trendsetter and elements of it have been passed down in the second part as well.
Director Anees Bazmee, who had previously worked with Akshay in movies like ‘Welcome’ and ‘Singh Is King’, clears the air on why the superstar refrained from the sequel.
Anees stated that Akshay is too big for these small things. “Akshay Kumar cannot be replaced, and he knows that he is not replaced in this film. Akshay has had a great body of work for over 25 years. Akshay is doing comedy, he is dancing, he is doing the action, he is doing everything, and he is getting offered the kind of films he wants,” Anees said.
Bazmee further added that it is a very small thing for him to do or not do Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. He stated, “But of course, if he was in our film, and if our story would have permitted that, then I am sure (he would have done it). We share a great relationship and friendship.” He has directed Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Welcome and Singh is King with Akshay and both share a great rapport, he would love to work with him again.
While enlightening about his freshly releases sequel Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, the director stated that this film is completely new and independent. he said, “Our Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is made in the Bhool Bhulaiyaa universe but is completely independent even as a sequel.”
Additionally, he explained why certain aspects of the original film were preserved in the sequel Like Monjulika, Ghoonghru sound, the famous song ‘Ami je Tomar, Hunted Haveli and Rajpal Yadav. He stated that he won’t call it a copy, but these elements have these things have inspired his team and they wanted to adapt it in their film, their way. He said, ” We have tried, then when you see our film, you’ll remember the film but also feel that it is a fresh new film”.
