In a case involving an alleged effort to blackmail and bribe Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, a court on Tuesday remanded alleged bookie Anil Jaisinghani in police custody till March 27.
The police remand of Aniksha Jaisinghani, Jaisinghani’s daughter, was also extended by the court till March 24.
A day earlier, Anil Jaisinghani was apprehended in Gujarat. On Tuesday, he was presented before Additional Sessions Judge D. D. Almale. Designer Aniksha Anil Jaisinghani was detained by Mumbai Police on March 16 after Amruta Fadnavis accused her of threatening her and accusing her of giving a bribe in exchange for assisting in a criminal case in which Anil Jaisinghani was implicated.
After the conclusion of her initial remand on Tuesday, Aniksha was brought before the court. When the police claimed that more investigation was required, the court extended her custody.
The father-daughter duo has been accused of violating the Prevention of Corruption Act as well as parts of the Indian Criminal Code that deal with extortion and criminal conspiracy. Anil Jaisinghani is the subject of at least 17 active cases, according to the police.
