Amid Khedkar Controversy, Disability Certs of 4 Gujarat IAS Officers Under Scanner

| Updated: July 20, 2024 14:32

Even as the raging controversy surrounding Maharashtra cadre IAS trainee Puja Khedkar continues to make news, with her “disability certificate” now under scrutiny apart from other irregularities, the Gujarat government is examining the veracity of documents submitted by four IAS officers of the state cadre related to their disability certificates.

Of these is a senior officer presently on a key posting, while three others are junior ranked officers.

The state general administration department (GAD) conducted the exercise to verify the authenticity of disability certificates after the Khedkar case grabbed headlines. The chief minister office (CMO) is also directed to thoroughly check the documents of babus.

“On the basis of the preliminary examination, we have shortlisted four IAS officers which merit a closer scrutiny,” sources said.

According to sources, the senior officer had provided a disability certificate, but the inquiry has revealed that, under current circumstances, the officer seemingly has no problems in any physical function.

This case needs to be further evaluated as it is possible that the officer suffered disability during the time of induction in service which may have got corrected over the years,” said a senior official.

The three junior officers have stated “locomotive disability” reasons in their disability certificates, but reportedly do not have any difficulty in moving their limbs. Sources said that one of the three junior officers is even quite active on social media platforms, having posted a number of videos on the personal social media handle.

Sources said that if any document furnished by the babus is found to be fake, the Gujarat government will report the findings to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which allotted cadres to officers for further action.
