The IPL buzz has built up to a crescendo. For cricket lovers, the day holds no less a significance than a ceremonial observance. Turning on the tele at the right time is a known superstition for die hard fans… some even go to the extent of appeasing deities by way of small offerings in order to turn the tide in favor of their team!!! You might be a cricket devotee, an aficionado or simply someone who likes to watch an inspiring game. However, the trend is clear: India will largely remain indoors on May 29 onwards 8 pm, glued to their tele sets or any screen that brings alive the IPL 2022 finale. The cultural-dos begin onwards 6:30 pm. And thereon, the match starts 8 pm.
Covid detracted from the opening and closing ceremonies for the last three seasons. However, this time around, seems BCCI is more than making up for the lapse. While the arrangements for the IPL 2022 closing ceremony are still being worked out, it has been confirmed that Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and Bollywood star Ranveer Singh will perform. The bohemian Ranveer’s sequence is choreographed by Shiamak Davar. The promisingly spectacular show has 300 folk dancers. Laal Singh Chaddha aka Aamir Khan will promote his upcoming during the second strategic timeout.
Above all, security arrangements have been tightened. More than 6,000 police personnel will be deployed for security arrangements in Ahmedabad from Friday to Sunday for the political and sports events. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Gujarat on May 28 and take part in public functions in different parts of the state, a government notification was issued.
The state government has also roped in state reserve police (SRP), the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and other agencies for security arrangements. Several police teams conducted flag marches in sensitive areas of Ahmedabad Thursday.
“As many as 17 DCPs, 4 DIGSs, 28 ACPs, 51 police inspectors, 268 sub-inspectors, over 5,000 constables, 1,000 home guards and three companies of SRP will be part of the bandobast in the coming days,” stated Sanjay Srivastava, commissioner of police, Ahmedabad city.
The police has also issued a notification order prohibiting flying of drones or any unmanned aircraft from 3:30 pm to 8 pm on May 28 (Saturday) in Ahmedabad ahead of PM Modi’s visit. Another notification prohibiting possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives and weapons such as rods, sticks, knives, swords or any sharp weapon or inflammable items was also issued. The city police also undertook a crackdown on anti-social elements in the city ahead of the IPL finale matches at the Narendra Modi stadium in Motera.
Interestingly, Ahmedabad, which has hosted 47 T20s till date, has hosted 17 IPL matches across four seasons. Although not with the best of returns, Royals have played the maximum number of matches here.
