The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will take the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to make the city better by addressing the civic issues.
The corporation is going to use drones that would fly over the city and identify civic problems ranging from waste dumps to bad roads or overflowing sewerages. As a pilot project drones were flown over a stretch of the city from Panjrapol cross to roads to Ambawadi circle.
The project is part of the smart city programme and the entire city would be covered in three months.
Municipal Commissioner M Thennarasan said, “We receive hundreds of complaints regarding various civic problems daily. Our field staff is on work but with the help of AI we will be able to identify problems and take immediate action. Drones will fly over the city and capture photos of the problem areas. The system would be connected to the smart city which would immediately generate a token. The token will be sent to the official concerned for action.”
Many peculiar issues like tree cutting, tree trimming, garden waste, citizens dumping waste on roads, violation of laws by under construction buildings would also be monitored by AI systems.
One of the added benefits of the drone system would be that it would also monitor traffic, the commissioner said. In case of violation of traffic rules challans would be generated and people would get e-memos. AMC has tied up with the traffic department for the same.
