Meanwhile, cricket aficionados in Ahmedabad will get cricket thrills in their own little universe. Not just by watching but playing as well.
According to a report, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).is contemplating leasing out plots to corporates to set up box cricket facilities along the SP Ring Road and SG Highway.
“The AMC wants to ride that popularity wave, providing better recreational opportunities for locals while ensuring these investments don’t go down the slippery slope of neglect,” a senior civic official told the paper.
The AMC revealed its plan to scout government-owned plots in the city that could be changed into box cricket arenas.
The AMC’s standing committee instructed the identification of suitable plots in all seven zones, the report added.
The AMC also intends to change its existing land disposal strategy, allowing private firms to lease the plots for various timeframes. A new revenue-sharing model and well-regulated plot size limits will be part of the new rules.
AMC officials informed the daily that the association had invested considerably in tennis courts, which haven’t been maintained in the right way.
Box cricket, a compressed version of the original, is played indoors or inside a boundary of the net in a controlled environment. Bowlers bowl underarm and sixes are prohibited. This format is for those skilled at ground shots, quick running, and sharp fielding.
