The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has imposed an administrative fine of Rs 50,000 on the prestigious ITC Narmada Hotel, following a complaint by a customer who allegedly discovered an insect in his food.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, prompted the AMC to issue a formal notice to the hotel.
In response, a team led by the Designated Food Safety Officer swiftly inspected all seven kitchens within the hotel’s restaurants.
Deputy Health Officer Dr Bhavin Joshi told VOI, “I received a message around 4 p.m. on Wednesday regarding the incident and our team rushed to the hotel within an hour. We inspected the kitchen, storage, refrigerators and food items. Nothing objectionable was found during the inspection. We gave the notice to the hotel and imposed the fine. No kitchen has been sealed. The fine is paid.”
An official spokesperson issued a brief statement, saying: “We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. We continue to abide by the same.”
Despite this, the hotel management declined to provide any further details regarding the incident.
This case is part of a worrying trend of similar insect-related incidents reported in hotels and restaurants across Gujarat.
Just recently, the AMC took action against the Hyatt Hotel, located near Nexus Ahmedabad One mall in Vastrapur, after an insect was discovered in a dish served to a customer.
The latest findings at ITC Narmada have added to growing concerns over food safety standards at high-end establishments in the state.
