The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is gearing up to auction 10 plots in the city, with a total base rate of Rs 901.45 crore, before the model code of conduct for the general election comes into effect. The plots include the largest one ever put up for auction by the AMC, measuring 66,000 square metres, with a base rate of Rs 76,000 per sq m. The plot is located on SP Ring Road in Chandkheda, along with two other commercial plots. The municipal commissioner has sought the approval of the AMC’s standing committee for the auction.
Out of the 10 plots, eight are meant for commercial use, with a combined base price of Rs 502.87 crore. A senior AMC official said that a major international developer firm, which specializes in building large shopping malls, has shown interest in the Chandkheda plots. If the deal goes through, it will be the city’s largest mall, covering 85,893 sq m and valued at Rs 696.96 crore. The official added that the AMC and Auda have decided to sell two more adjacent plots owned by Auda in Chandkheda, creating a huge land parcel of 1.26 lakh square metres on SP Ring Road.
The AMC’s land auction also includes a plot in Thaltej’s TP Scheme 37, which is earmarked for a school, with a base price of Rs 101.80 crore. Moreover, seven smaller plots in Makarba, Nikol, Muthiya, Motera and Chandkheda are available, with base rates ranging from Rs 65,000 to Rs 1 lakh per square metre.
In January, the AMC had sold five plots in an online auction for Rs 298.65 crore. I K Patel, deputy municipal commissioner (urban development and estate), said, “The proposal for the 10-plot auction has been submitted to the standing committee. Once approved, the AMC will proceed with the auction procedure.” D P Desai, AUDA CEO, revealed plans to auction at least six other plots in the coming months, in addition to two plots in Zundal.
